Northern lights
Senja Island is located in the Tromsø area and is one of the best places to see the bright and full northern lights.
Where to see the northern lights?
To catch the northern lights you need good weather and solar activity. There may be a night without clouds, but only the stars are visible... There may be clouds, but a glow shines through the clouds. No one can tell you on what day and time it will appear.
The aurora can be observed from September to March.
Often called 'Northern Lights Hunting' because it requires preparation and patience.
Our tour will last from 3 to 5 hours. If the weather is good we'll make a fire, cup of tea and wait. I will tell you about local legends about the aurora, what types there are and what its colour depends on. We'll set up cameras, I will explain and show you how to take pictures. If it is cloudy on the day of the tour, we will drive around the island in search of clear skies.
How will the tour go?
We will discuss the beginning of the tour in person, taking into account solar activity and weather conditions. You can stay for a few days at Senja Camp to be sure to catch the lights.
In one of the documentaries, a northern resident said:
“If you see a star, you will see the radiance. Wait"
And in fact, when the weather is good, there is a high probability of seeing an Aurora.
Be sure to prepare
  • Check the charging of all equipment you take with you.
  • We recommend wearing open-fingered gloves.
  • In cold weather, the camera discharges very quickly; it is good to have a power bank for recharging.
  • Flashlight.
  • A memory card with enough capacity, you will have more possibilities to make many attempts before you get a good shot.
  • Be sure to take a tripod with you to ensure clear photos.
  • Dress very warmly.
